Whitewater Rafting is a blast. Hands down. There are places all over the country to find some fast water, but I highly suggest the Kicking Horse River in British Columbia. We picked this spot originally because of where it is located. We were staying in Canmore and it's a relatively short trek. No complaints about the experience either! We rafted with Wild Water Adventures! It was adrenaline rushing, had a super fun environment and the setting couldn't be more gorgeous!
When Whitewater Rafting you guide and paddle the raft through whitewater, or rapids. If you have never gone Whitewater Rafting before it's no biggie. The staff will coach you through it all. How to paddle, what certain signals mean and so on. Your guide will likely sit at the back with overall steering capabilities using the ores, while your group will help with speed and aid in steering. They'll provide you with the proper gear, like a wet suit, helmet and coat! I love Whitewater Rafting because it is so exciting, it's a great workout and with the right group of people it is so much fun. I wish I could remember our guides name at Wild Water Adventures, he was a hoot.
Even kids can get out on rapids, my first time Whitewater Rafting was when I was 12-years-old, on the Ottawa River. Regardless of your age or experience, prepare to get soaked!! Along the Kicking Horse River the water is turquoise blue and no matter what direction you look, you'll see mountains. You really get to experience the Canadian Rockies by cruising right beneath them. And yes, all these fun pictures are courtesy of their staff!
